If there’s one thing Delhi has never needed convincing to do, it’s shop.
This is a city that will happily drive 40 minutes for a beautiful rack of clothes or politely nudge its Mahjong partner aside to get first access to a design exhibition. We treat store openings like major social events, pencilling them into our calendars before we’ve even decided what we’re wearing. Locations are forwarded across WhatsApp groups with the urgency of breaking news, and “just popping in” is almost always code for leaving with at least one shopping bag.
And 2026 has given Delhi plenty of reasons to indulge.
In the first six months alone, the city has welcomed a wave of new flagships, thoughtfully designed boutiques and mammoth retail spaces. Some have become the backdrop to every other Instagram Story, while others have quietly built loyal followings through clever curation and beautiful interiors. Together, they’ve reshaped where Delhi is spending its weekends and its money.
For all our conversations around global fashion, some of the most interesting design is unfolding much closer to home, with a new generation of labels emerging from Colombo, Dhaka, Jakarta and across South Asia. AltaRasa, the new multi-designer store in Defence Colony, brings that conversation to the capital with a considered edit of contemporary designers from across South and Southeast Asia. From Pakistan’s Misha Lakhani and Indonesia’s Reemami to Sri Lanka’s Sonali Dharmawardena, alongside StellaRissa, Maus, Anuk and homegrown favourite Akaaro, Urvashi Kaur, the space introduces several designers making their India debut. Curated by Lopamudra, this is the kind of store that reminds you the best addition to your wardrobe is the one that will be well-worn and loved.
